It is true that we may generalize the idea of a network in several ways. There is a branch of mathematics known in the trade as matroid theory which, for example, includes networks under its umbrella. When problems of matroid are solved, they automatically have consequences in the theory of networks. This does not mean, however, the study of the networks has been genuinely superseded. To explain with a more common analogy, we all know that any ordinary counting number, such as 6, can be represented by a fraction, 6/1. We have a very good understanding of fractions, but that does not mean that the theory allows to solve all important problems about whole numbers. Placing a question in a wider setting does not automatically argument your comprehension of it. Indeed it might be a misguided distraction that will not help at all

WIRED: How much of Newton(25 December 1642 – 20 March 1727)’s writing has survived?I

Dry: A huge amount. There’s roughly 10 million words - enough to fill up roughly 150 novel-length books - that Newton left. Around half of the writing is religious, and there are about 1 million words on alchemical material, most of which is copies of other people’s stuff. There are about 1 million words related to his work as Master of the Mint. And then roughly 3 million related to science and math.
